Formation of Marcoe

Marcoe was formed by Mick Rutledge, Alan Pounder & Robert Webb in 1962. During the 60 years since its inception, it has become one of the leading engineering contractors in the UK.

The Early Years

Our initial clients included SmithKline Beecham (GlaxoSmithkline), The Shredded Wheat Company (Cereal Partners) and Aviation Developments (Textron).

Energy From Waste Centre

Marcoe successfully delivered one of the first Energy from Waste projects on the Isle of Wight 1984 and followed this up with the Hastings Waste to Energy projects in 1988.

Marcoe Projects In The North West

Marcoe secured a contract for a new production facility at Cereal Partners on The Wirral Peninsula in 1996, which comprised the new Cheerios production facility. Marcoe’s client base in the North West has been expanded to include Valeo, Purina, United Biscuits, Jacobs Bakery as well as still undertaking works for Cereal Partners UK.

Atlas Wharf

This was Marcoe’s first construction project where we exceeded an order value of £1,000,000.

Emirates Stadium

This was our first significant stadium project where we undertook the installation of the fire alarm, emergency voice communication, security, CCTV and PAVA works.

Wembley Stadium

After the successful delivery of the Emirates stadium, we carried out £600,000 worth of recovery works for Honeywell, working on fire alarm and PAVA installations.

Royal Derby Hospital

Our scope of works included the site wide installation of the fire alarm and PAVA systems. At the time, when we secured the site-wide contract, this was the largest fire alarm award in the UK that year.

Olympic Aquatics & Water Polo Centres

We secured the complete electrical installations for the Aquatics and Water polo venues for both the Olympic Games and Legacy modes of the buildings. The total project value was £5,000,000.

St Barts Hospital & Royal London Hospital

We secured the electrical installation packages for Skanska in both the Royal London and St Barts Hospitals with a combined total order value of £12,000,000.  We continue to undertake projects for a number of clients in both hospitals.

5 Broadgate

We undertook a major Project Recovery exercise for Mace with a final account value of £6,100,000.  We completed the electrical installation including MV, LV, primary and secondary containment, small power and lighting works.

Biomedical Campus, Cambridge

Marcoe secured the Shell & Core installation on this new state-of-the-art R&D facility located in Cambridge with a project value in excess of £13,000,000.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

This was another in a long line of Marcoe Project Recovery exercises which leveraged our considerable Stadium experience to assist in the completion of the Life Safety Systems.
